Van Gaal Criticises McNair

Louis van Gaal says Manchester United could have lost to Leicester when defender Paddy McNair 'thought he was a striker'.

Van Gaal was pleased with his players as they picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, against a Foxes side which had been top of the Premier League going into the game.

But the United boss admitted his side were fortunate not to gift Leicester all three points late in the game when David de Gea was forced into a save by Leonardo Ulloa.

That opportunity was generated by a swift counter-attack while young centre-back McNair, who was making his first start of the season, had joined in an attack.

"In the first half, we didn't dominate as much as we did in the second half," said Van Gaal. "So, in the second half, I was waiting on our goal but it didn't come.

"They also had a good chance; we gave the ball away because [Paddy] McNair thought he was a striker at that moment and then the channels were open and then they could run in them."
