Darmian Suffers Dislocated Shoulder

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Matteo Darmian suffered a dislocated shoulder during the 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

The Italy international faces another spell on the sidelines during an injury-affected first campaign in England after being withdrawn in the 36th minute. Darmian received treatment on the problem and left the Stadium of Light with his arm in a sling.

"It is unbelievable," complained van Gaal. "It is a dislocation so he will be out for several weeks. We do not have many more full-backs, not even in the [youth] system. Donald Love has played today at right-back and he did it well."

Love replaced Darmian to make his senior United debut and performed solidly with fellow Academy graduate Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in the other full-back slot.

Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, who can all play in the wide defensive positions, have had operations this term. Guillermo Varela and Phil Jones, two other options, were injured in the Under-21s' 7-0 thrashing of Norwich City last Monday.
