De Gea Injured During Warm-up
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea suffered an injury in the warm-up for Thursday’s Europa League tie at FC Midtjylland, adding his name to the lengthy list of absentees.
The Spanish no.1 has made 31 appearances this season and was originally named in the starting XI for the match in Denmark by manager Louis van Gaal. However, with around 10 minutes to go until kick-off, it was confirmed he had picked up an injury and been replaced by Sergio Romero.
Speaking after the 2-1 defeat, the manager gave this short update on his goalkeeper and revealed the full extent of the problem is not yet clear. “It happened in the warm up," he said. "We have to wait and see for the scan tomorrow, then maybe we can say more but it was a big surprise.”
United of course flew to Denmark without Wayne Rooney after the captain suffered a knee injury during the 2-1 defeat at Sunderland, where Matteo Darmian also dislocated his shoulder.
Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Guillermo Varela, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Adnan Januzaj.
