Smalling Misses Training

Manchester United could be without Chris Smalling for their Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland after the defender missed training because of injury on Wednesday.

The injury sustained by Smalling, who scored in the 3-0 FA Cup fifth-round victory at Shrewsbury Town on Monday, is yet to be specified, but his absence from training will come as another blow to manager Louis van Gaal.

United are currently without 12 first-team players, including captain Wayne Rooney and goalkeeper David de Gea, with Van Gaal recently labelling the club's injury woes as a "difficult situation".

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Will Keane added to United's growing list of injuries at Shrewsbury and were not part of the 20-man squad that trained on Wednesday, which included six youngsters.

However, Marcus Rojo and Antonio Valencia returned to training ahead of the second-leg against the Danish champions at Old Trafford after recovering from their respective injuries.

Adnan Januzaj also took part in training following a hamstring problem, but will be unable to feature against Midtjylland as he is cup-tied having played for Borussia Dortmund in the competition earlier this season.

United are aiming to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Midtjylland on Thursday.
