MATCH REACTION

Louis van Gaal: "I have to say it was a great match between two good sides. The difference was that we have played a match on Thursday and they have a full week of preparation. In the first 15 minutes, I think West Ham were the better team and created a few chances but, after that, we were coming back and also created chances. Not the biggest chances but we created chances. In the second half, we were the better team and they scored from a free-kick. We are behind and have lost against West Brom and Liverpool this week but then you can come back like that and I think it's amazing."

Slaven Bilic: "Manchester United are a different team when they play away and don't have that confidence. It is very hard to play here with 75,000 fans and this atmosphere. It is going to be a tough game but I fancy us because we're going to be even more confident."

*Everton will face either Manchester United or West Ham in the FA Cup semi-finals, while Crystal Palace will take on Watford.

The ties will be played on the weekend of 23-24 April at Wembley.

Man. United & Fellaini Avoid UEFA Action

Manchester United will not be punished by Uefa after some of their fans sang offensive Hillsborough disaster chants in a Europa League defeat at Liverpool.

United's Marouane Fellaini has also escaped sanction for an alleged elbow on Emre Can in the final moments.

Uefa decided to take no action as neither incident was mentioned in the match officials' report.

Liverpool won the first leg of their last-16 tie 2-0 at Anfield and the return takes place on Thursday.

Officials are set to pay closer attention to chants at Old Trafford.

United have said such chants "have no place in the game".

Butt: Euro 2016 too early for Rashford

Marcus Rashford is still learning the game and might suffer if called up by England for Euro 2016, says Manchester United's academy chief Nicky Butt.

England boss Roy Hodgson said Rashford was in his thoughts for France after the striker, 18, scored four goals in his first two appearances for United.

But Butt said: "I think talk of England is well too soon for Marcus."

He said Rashford had "phenomenal potential" but an international call-up now could do "more damage than good".

The 41-year-old Butt, who made 387 appearances for United, said: "It could backfire on everybody and might not be the right thing for him.

"I'm not telling an England manager what to do; it's his job to pick whoever he feels.

"But for me he's a young boy who's still learning the game and has got a long way to go yet."

Nicky Butt Pleased By Manchester United Youth Breaking Into First-team

Nicky Butt, head of the Manchester United academy, has described the influx of youth into United's first-team as "massive" for the club.

This season Marcus Rashford, Guillermo Varela, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Donald Love and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have all been introduced to the senior side, as several established United players have suffered injuries.

And Butt thinks the youngsters have already achieved a lot in making the breakthrough.

"It's massive for the club to have players coming through the Academy. A lot of them have done unbelievably well to get to there," Butt said.

"Maybe it's come from necessity rather than right timing with obviously a lot of injuries that the first-team had, the horrific injuries that we've had.

"But when they've all came on they've come on and done really well."

Robson: LVG Failure Will Harm United

Bryan Robson says Manchester United's prestige is under threat if the club fails to win a trophy or qualify for Europe this season.

United lie sixth in the Premier League, four points off the Champions League places with nine games remaining.

They remain involved in the Europa League this season - outright victory in which would lead to a Champions League spot - but must overturn a 2-0 deficit in the second leg of their last-16 tie against Liverpool.

They are also still in the FA Cup, with a quarter-final replay at West Ham their next assignment in that competition.

Old Trafford legend Robson feels if Louis van Gaal fails to either win a trophy this season, or secure European football for next year, that the club's reputation will be damaged.

"I think he needs to win something, or at least get United into Europe, that's the least we have to look at," Robson said at the launch of United's partnership with Gulf Oil International at the club's Carrington training centre. "Otherwise, it's a huge blow to the club's prestige.

Rooney Hoping To Be Back For Everton Date

Wayne Rooney does not expect to be sidelined 'too long' after the international break and is confident he will be at his best for Euro 2016.

Rooney has missed Manchester United's last eight games with a knee ligament injury he suffered against Sunderland, and media reports last week suggested he could even miss this summer's tournament in France.

The 30-year-old will not be ready for England's forthcoming friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands, but could be back in time for United's Premier League clash with former club Everton on April 3 and hopes that will be enough time to prepare for a long summer.

"It is going as planned. It is going how we first thought. It is going well so hopefully it won't be too long now," Rooney said as he attended the unveiling of United's partnership with Gulf Oil International.

Law: United Need Rooney Back

Wayne Rooney's return to action will be a huge boost for Manchester United heading into the final stretch of the season, according to club legend Denis Law.

Rooney should be back early next month after an ankle ligament injury suffered in February raised doubts about his fitness and availability for this summer's European Championship.

United are taking a cautious approach with their skipper's recovery and 1968 European Cup winner Law hopes Rooney - the club's second highest goalscorer in history behind Sir Bobby Charlton - will return soon to spearhead United's attack.

"Wayne Rooney is a goalscorer and we need him back," Law told Sky Sports. "When Wayne joined Manchester United - and I said it at the time - if he stays away from injury he will break all records.

"He is important to the club - as are all of the players regardless of their position - but because he is a striker he is reliant on other people like the midfielders and the wingers giving him the ball.

"Looking back on my own career I was really lucky to be playing alongside two of the greatest players in the world in Bobby Charlton and George Best. That made it easier for me."
