Have United Approached Jose?

The Sunday Supplement panel discussed the future of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and the potential arrival of Jose Mourinho.

A report in the Independent has suggested United officials have made contact with Mourinho's camp regarding his interest in replacing Van Gaal this summer.

The United manager remains confident he will be at the club next season, but Sunday Supplement panellist Jonathan Northcroft believes United have still not made up their mind.

"As far as I understand it, there have been opportunities for United to tie Mourinho down to talks and they haven't taken them," Northcroft said.

"That is sending a signal that Van Gaal is picking up on. Of course it's bluster from him, and that's a very Louis van Gaal thing to do, but it's a very strong thing to say he'll be there next year.

"Maybe he has got nothing to lose in terms of credibility and if he's wrong on that, it doesn't matter but I would suspect they still haven't made their decision.

"As incredible as it seems, even now I don't think United know what they are doing and are not sure what call they are making on Van Gaal and Mourinho."
