Sir Alex's Advice For Jose
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has joked about the two pieces of advice he has received from his old friend Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of his first season with the Reds.
Jose first met Sir Alex back in 2004 when his Porto team famously knocked United out of the Champions League, before doing battle again while managing his other clubs Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. They formed a bond while being rival bosses and remain on good terms.
During his first press conference as United manager, the new man at the helm was asked about his relationship with Sir Alex and whether he had received any words of wisdom from him.
“Bring an umbrella!” Jose joked with reporters inside Old Trafford’s Europa Suite on Tuesday morning.
“Yesterday I couldn't believe that it was raining, so it was good advice. He also said to bring my typical bottle of wine because now we will have many occasions to be together.
“At this moment Sir Alex is on a bit of a holiday at the Euros (European Championship), so I can't see him this week. Once his holidays are finished we will be both based in Manchester so will have lots of time to meet each other and he will always be welcome at the training ground.
“We will have time to share a lot of our personal stuff like friends, family and life. His opinion is an important opinion for me in the same way that many legends in this club love the club and are in the punditry industry, so every opinion will be important for me. Their connection with the club will always be respected and I will try to learn from their advice.”
