Jones: Mourinho Has Stamped His Authority

Phil Jones says Jose Mourinho has stamped his authority on the squad to ensure Manchester United will be ready for the start of the campaign.

Jones has featured at centre-back during the pre-season period, including in front of the home fans as a substitute in Wayne Rooney's testimonial against Everton on Wednesday night.

Spirits are high among the fans following the entertaining 5-2 victory over Galatasaray in Gothenburg and the capture of three exciting new players. With the Community Shield against Leicester City to come on Sunday, there is every reason for optimism heading into 2016/17.

"Definitely," Jones replied to ManUtd.com, when asked if he could sense the excitement among the supporters. "I think we have signed very well in the market.

"The new manager has come in and stamped his authority on the squad already. Hopefully, we'll keep pushing forward and moving in the right direction.

"We're getting fitter game by game. We've still got to improve in some areas we've been working on but I'm sure we'll be there or thereabouts come the start of the season. It's always difficult to get back into rhythm in the first games, with the changes in personnel, but it's nice to be back."
