United's Record In The Netherlands

We take a look at Manchester United's previous visits to the Netherlands to face Dutch sides ahead of the Europa League tie with Feyenoord...
Willem II 1 United 1 - 25/09/1963

A visit to Tilburg provided a first Dutch outing in the opening round of the European Cup-Winners' Cup. The semi-professional hosts defended resolutely and were determined to stifle any graceful, flowing football the fans may have expected. There was a real talking point when the Reds' scorer David Herd was sent off with 10 minutes remaining after earlier cancelling out Frits Louer's effort.

Ajax 1 United 0 - 15/09/1976
Despite having Ajax on the back foot for large spells of the game, Holland international Ruud Krol settled the tie with a first-half goal. In the 41st minute, the defender glided forward, linking up with Frank Arnesen, and placed a low shot wide of Alex Stepney. It was a bitter pill for the Reds to swallow in a first game in Europe since the defence of the European Cup in 1968/69.

PSV Eindhoven 0 United 0 - 24/10/1984
Ron Atkinson's side deserved a hard-earned draw for a resilient performance. Bryan Robson was in fine form in midfield as PSV failed to break through despite creating good chances for Frans van Rooy and Willy van der Kerkhof. United had a decent share of the game and also went close through a sweetly-struck volley by Jesper Olsen, against his former club, that was clawed away by Hans van Breukelen.

Feyenoord 1 United 3 - 05/11/1997
Feyenoord were torn to pieces by a terrific display of attacking prowess by no. 9 Andy Cole, who claimed a hat-trick in a wonderful away display. An unsettling atmosphere greeted the United players inside De Kuip but the hosts were well beaten, long before a late consolation. Cole's opener owed much to his blistering pace and he added simple finishes from inviting crosses by David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.

PSV Eindhoven 3 United 1 - 26/09/2000.
Despite gaining the early initiative when Paul Scholes scored from the spot after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was clipped by PSV keeper Ronald Waterreus, United were unable to gain further momentum. After Dwight Yorke missed a great opportunity, Wilfried Bouma levelled and Mateja Kezman set up Mark van Bommel to make it 2-1. Kezman added a third by unleashing a bullet drive from a narrow angle that flew in.

Ajax 0 United 2 - 16/02/2012
The Red Devils had a tough test in this Europa League clash but goals from Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez saw them move one step closer to the next round. United enjoyed plenty of possession, keeping the ball and staying composed until a chance came in the 59th minute when Young finished hard and low into the Ajax goal. The clincher came five minutes before the end with Hernandez finishing superbly under a helpless Kenneth Vermeer.

PSV Eindhoven 2 United 1 - 15/09/2015
United's return to the Champions League group stages ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat. The game was overshadowed by Luke Shaw suffering a terrible leg break in a challenge with Mexican central defender Hector Moreno. Shaw required oxygen on the pitch and was carried off on a stretcher before being taken to hospital. Memphis Depay scored a brilliant solo goal against his former employers but Moreno equalised in first-half stoppage time and Luciano Narsingh hit the winner.
