Blind: Games I'd Love To Play In
Manchester United defender Daley Blind dipped into Dutch football's recent history when the club's official match programme asked him to pick two classic matches he'd love to revisit.
The 26-year-old began the quickfire Q&A with United Review by selecting the Netherlands’ 2014 World Cup win over reigning champions Spain when he assisted the famous flying header by former Reds striker Robin van Persie.
Casting his mind back even further, the Reds' no.17 then expressed a wish to play alongside his father Danny Blind on the night that AFC Ajax beat AC Milan in the 1995 European Cup final.
Here's Daley's 'Football & Me' interview in full...
If you could go back to play in any match, which would it be?
That’s a difficult question. There are a couple of games I’d like to play in. I’ve always said I’d like to play in the World Cup again in Brazil because it was a great experience, but if I can choose any game I think I’d pick one I could play in with my dad! Let’s say the Champions League final in ’95 for Ajax.
Which is the greatest ever Dutch club side?
For me the best team in Holland was the ’95 Ajax team with my dad and our last manager here [Louis van Gaal]. They won everything they could win that year with the club. That’s one of the best teams Holland has seen.
Who is football’s greatest ever player?
That’s too tough. I think Johan Cruyff was one of the best.
Which is your greatest moment in a United shirt?
My debut and whenever I lift a trophy.
What was the first position you ever played?
I think I was a left midfielder. When you’re younger you don’t always have set positions, but I think that’s where I played when I was first given a regular position.
Who is the biggest influence on your career?
The managers I’ve had.
What is your proudest moment in football?
I cannot name just one. You have proud moments when you lift a trophy, they are moments you never forget. Also the moment I gave my pass to Robin van Persie in the World Cup [for the header v Spain], it was a great moment. And my first international goal in the World Cup against Brazil. When such moments happen I always try to enjoy them and I watch them back sometimes when they pop up on social media. I feel very proud of those moments.
