Rashford: Nobody Saw My Best Goal!

In the latest instalment of our Football & Me series, Manchester United teen Marcus Rashford admits the best goal of his career was scored as a little-known 15-year-old Academy star.

The effort - which he ranks above his outstanding senior finishes against Manchester City and West Ham - was therefore not recorded by our MUTV cameras because of child protection rules. As such, it is likely that just a handful of spectators saw it from pitchside that day.

As Rashford explains in the Q&A below and the video in the player above, the best goal of his flourishing career was memorable for its teamwork and audacity...

Best goal you’ve ever scored at any level?
I think I was about 15 years old and I scored one from the kick-off. There was me and another player, we started the kick-off together and then we went straight forward from there. We played a few one-twos together and it was a simple finish in the end, but the way we went all the way up was great.

First match you attended?
It was United v Real Madrid. I think I was only two or three years old. My brother took me to that game. It was the one when Ronaldo scored a hat-trick so it was a good first match for me.

You played for Fletcher Moss Rangers, but did you also play for your school team?
Yeah, I think I first played for my school team when I was in year five. It was a year five and year six team. It was quite good, we had a few good players at other academies like Crewe. I think my last school game was in year seven and then I couldn’t play after that because I was at United. My primary school was Button Lane and my high school was Sale High.

Proudest moment in football?
To make my debut for United.

Best match you’ve ever taken part in?
I would say City away last season and scoring the winner.

Hardest opponent you’ve ever come up against?
I think, individually, it would be Laurent Koscielny at Arsenal. He was a difficult defender to play against.

What’s your biggest ambition in football?
To win the Champions League with United, that would be mint.
