Herrera Discusses United's Road To Wembley

From Northampton in the third round to Southampton in this weekend's final, it's been a memorable Road to Wembley for Manchester United in this season's EFL Cup.

Reds midfielder Ander Herrera helped kick-start our run to Sunday's showpiece match by scoring against the League One side back in September and, ahead of the game, he's been looking back on the story so far...

Third round: Northampton 1 United 3
Herrera: "I really like these atmospheres and have a good memory of this game, because we won. It wasn't so easy, we weren't in our best moment, but we won. I remember we had some chances and played well in the first half but were quite unlucky, with a penalty against us. It was 1-1 at half-time, but confidence was high. We were playing well and eventually did it. I scored too, so I have good memories from this game."

Fourth round: United 1 City 0
"Good memories - a derby! We wanted to give the victory to our fans, because we knew how hard it had been against them in the league. I think we reacted very, very well. There was a very clear penalty against me in the build-up to the goal, but luckily Juan [Mata] scored a good goal, a very important goal, so I didn't complain about the foul!"

Quarter-final: United 4 West Ham 1
"I remember that we'd played them at home a few days before and drawn 1-1, after creating maybe 20 chances. We created a lot of chances in this game too, I felt like I had already seen the film! We did it in the second half and we were happy because, a few days before, we deserved to win the game but didn't."

Semi-final first leg: United 2 Hull 0
"Hull at that moment had a new manager. In one of the first games with the new manager, you all know how tough it is to play against them, because everyone wants to show the new manager that they're ready to play. It was very tough, but we won 2-0 - a good result. That result gave us the confidence to play away in the second leg."

Semi-final second leg: Hull 2 United 1
"If you have to choose one game to lose, everyone would have said Hull away, because the result of the result in the first leg. We deserved to lose this game, to be honest, but even on a very bad day for us, we made it through to the final. I remember it was minus three or four degrees, but our fans were very happy!"

Final: United v Southampton
"We have to respect Southampton, because I watched their semi-final against Liverpool and they were fantastic in both legs. All the memories I have from Wembley are fantastic, we won the FA Cup and the Community Shield there, and I made my debut for Spain - hopefully I can continue with the same memories."
