Caixinha Reveals Mourinho Talks

Pedro Caixinha says he spoke to compatriot and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho before taking over at Rangers.

The 46-year-old previously spent time in Scotland working on his coaching badges on Mourinho's advice after the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager wrote Caixinha a recommendation letter ahead of the coaching course.

However, he insists he has a very different managerial style to his fellow Portuguese coach and hopes to enjoy his own success story after being confirmed as the Ibrox boss over the weekend.

"Jose is a special guy, a fantastic guy and I'm glad to be his friend. He is having his way and I hope to have my way as well," he said.

Caixinha said his agent Pedro Mendes, who made 50 appearances for Rangers, has also been offering guidance on the club and what he can expect in Scottish football.

"When I received the message from Pedro in order for the possibility to be interviewed, he didn't say anything to me about the club but suddenly came on my mind - Rangers," Caixinha said.

"I cannot tell you why but it goes like this, so, of course, he has that importance and he is helping us along the way in order to know the reality and how big this club is."

Caixinha, who has managed in Mexico and Qatar, also said he will appoint a Scottish assistant to help him and his incoming staff "make the bridge" at Ibrox in a bid to learn more about the club, Glasgow and the Scottish game.

"It is not a new thing for me because this is the third time I am having a foreign experience working abroad," he said.

"When I went to Mexico, because of that, I asked for a local assistant. A local coach in order to be the club's assistant - with that is one guy to make the bridge in order to help us to know everything but also to apply our philosophy so that's what we want from this type of situation.

"What happened, for example in Qatar, and what is going to happen here, it is the same procedures. We will have a shortlist which is going to be presented by the management side and we will be delighted to have some interviews and after that we will take our decision."
