Rooney's View Of Talking Point

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney gave his view of the major talking point at the end of the first half in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

The Reds missed the chance to move into the Premier League's top four after ex-Reds striker Josh King's penalty cancelled out Marcos Rojo's opener at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Cherries captain Andrew Surman was sent off in first-half injury time for pushing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, after being unhappy at an aerial challenge involving the striker and Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings.

"I think both players went for the ball," Rooney told Sky Sports, when asked for his opinion on the challenge. "To be honest, I was out taking the corner so I didn’t see that one. I’m sure if anything’s happened, people will have their opinions on that."

That moment came shortly after another incident between the two players, when Mings made contact with Ibrahimovic's head as the United no.9 lay prone on the floor.

"In fairness, I don’t think the referee has seen Tyrone Mings try to stamp on Zlatan’s head," Rooney said. "Everyone likes to go in and have tackles, which have gone out of the game in recent years. But to try and stamp on a player’s head is wrong and there’s no place for it.

"I’ve been on the end of studs to the head and it’s not nice. Certainly it will get looked at and I’m sure the right punishment will be given."

The draw left the Reds sixth in the table as the 10-man visitors held out for a point.
