Mourinho Delighted By Triumph At Turf Moor

Jose Mourinho expressed his delight after his much-changed Manchester United team beat Burnley at Turf Moor to boost the club's chances of finishing in the Premier League's top four.

First-half goals from the recalled Anthony Martial and returning captain Wayne Rooney ensured a comfortable 2-0 win for the Reds, who moved to within a single point of fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of Thursday’s eagerly anticipated derby.

Here is what the boss had to say in his post-match interview with MUTV…

PERFECT DISPLAY AND RESULT
“Individual performances, top. Collective performance, top. Total control of the game. Very difficult place to play and I think, since the beginning of the game, we had a feeling that we were going to win the game. Even in the second half, [it was] closer to 3-0 than 2-1. Very good really.”

IMPRESSED WITH ANTHONY MARTIAL
“If the attitude is right, if the brain is right, if the desire is right, everybody knows the qualities he has, so I’m really pleased with what he did for us.”

FULL MATCH FOR ROONEY
“I was thinking about one hour. I gave him 90 minutes because he was solid, he was in the game, he was intelligent holding the ball for us, assisting [by] coming inside to play. I don’t even [need to] speak about an important goal. A captain for us.”

FELLAINI'S DEFENSIVE DISCIPLINE
“I would say [we play with] three centre-backs because Marouane was there to mark the direct football and to give protection to the other two, but I think all three [including Daley Blind and Eric Bailly] were really solid, I repeat, against an opponent which is difficult to cope with.”

SUPPORT FOR INJURED IBRAHIMOVIC AND ROJO
“We miss two very important players but we have other players. Injuries are normal in football. We don’t cry because of that. We cry because of big injuries to two friends and their surgeries and long-time recoveries. We cry because of that and everybody is obviously sad but at the same time we all have to be positive, to surround them with good feeling and they know they have in every one of us somebody that is with them.”

FINELY POISED FOR THURSDAY'S DERBY
“[There is] one point [between United and Manchester City] so the situation is open but Man City has to play Premier League football and we have to play in the semi-finals of a European competition. Yes, it’s an objective to try to finish in the top four but my feeling, my understanding, what I like to share, is that this club is made to win trophies. In the Premier League, we cannot win it. In the Europa League, we have a 25-per-cent chance of winning it. So, I think we have to put everything into the Europa League.”
