Boss Sweats On Fellaini Fitness

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will wait on an update regarding Marouane Fellaini and Eric Bailly's fitness following the 0-0 draw at Southampton.

Fellaini headed straight for the tunnel after being withdrawn towards the end of the game at St Mary's after a quick chat with the boss and appeared to be struggling with a hamstring problem.

It naturally sparked concerns that the Belgian could join the list of absentees for next week's Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm.

"Fellaini, on top of his experience, he says it's not a tear," Mourinho told MUTV. "On top of his experience, he says it was a minimal thing but minimal can be a big thing. Let's wait for tomorrow but he needed to play.

"I couldn't protect him as he needed to play. He didn't play for three matches due to suspension. Players need not only to rest but also to play. He wasn't playing a lot so he had to play today. I don't blame myself or our decision but let's wait."

In a separate interview with the press, Mourinho added: "I sent Juan Mata inside just to have a shower. I don't want him to risk anything, sweating. It was just contact. No problem at all. Fellaini has had a tear before in his career and says he doesn't think it is. He says he just had a bad feeling in his hamstring. So normally, believing and trusting Marouane's feelings, he should be okay."

The boss also confirmed to Sky Sports that Bailly, who finished the match despite carrying an injury, was hurt.

"The one with little problems is the one [player] that can have little problems," he added. "Eric, because he's not playing the final [due to suspension]."
