Trio's Instant Impact Enters Record Books

Manchester United's four summer signings did rather well in 2016/17.

Three of them scored in major finals - Zlatan Ibrahimovic bagging a double in the EFL Cup final win over Southampton in February before both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba netted to secure the Europa League triumph over Ajax.

Eric Bailly, of course, was purchased for his defensive qualities and missed the Stockholm clash in any case.

Although Pogba is in his second spell at the club, if it is considered he achieved his feat in his first season after being bought by United, it means the three men have joined an elite band of Reds who have had such an instant impact at the club.

Indeed, only four players in history have previously scored in a major cup final in their maiden season at United. Denis Law capped his first year after arriving from Torino with a goal in the FA Cup final, with Arnold Muhren, from the penalty spot, and Cristiano Ronaldo also scoring in the showpiece occasion. Seven years ago, Michael Owen found the net in the League Cup final win over Aston Villa.

Scored in cup final in first season at United:

1963: Denis Law (v Leicester, FA Cup)
1983: Arnold Muhren (v Brighton, FA Cup replay)
2004: Cristiano Ronaldo (v Millwall, FA Cup)
2010: Michael Owen (v Aston Villa, League Cup)
2017: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (v Southampton, EFL Cup), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (v Ajax, Europa League), Paul Pogba (v Ajax, Europa League)
