United Face Burton Albion In Carabao Cup

Manchester United will begin the defence of the League Cup with a third-round tie against Championship side Burton Albion at Old Trafford.

Thursday's draw, which was held in Beijing, China, revealed the 16 third-round fixtures to be played in the week beginning 18 September.

The 2017/18 League Cup is sponsored by Carabao, a Thai brand, and United will look to get off to a flyer in this season's competition against Nigel Clough's outfit, who have won one and lost three of their four league games so far this season, after surviving relegation by a single point last term.

PREVIOUS MEETING
The sides have met twice before, in the FA Cup third round in January 2006, when Sir Alex Ferguson's side were held to a shock 0-0 draw by the Brewers – who were then in the Conference – at the Pirelli Stadium, before coming through the replay 5-0 at home, with goals from Louis Saha, Giuseppe Rossi (2), Kieran Richardson and Ryan Giggs.

LAST SEASON
The Reds claimed a fifth League Cup title last season, as Jose Mourinho’s side overcame Southampton 3-2 in the final to claim a second trophy of the campaign.

United’s route to Wembley contained a couple of memorable wins, such as the 1-0 fourth-round triumph over derby rivals Manchester City and the 4-1 demolition of West Ham at Old Trafford in the fifth round. As well as that, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic finished as the competition's joint-leading scorer with four goals.
