Herrera: Romelu Brings More Than Goals

Romelu Lukaku netted the 150th goal of his club career on Saturday and team-mate Ander Herrera is predicting many more are to come for Manchester United.

Lukaku's second-half strike in the 2-2 draw at Stoke made it five goals in as many games for the forward following his summer move from Everton. Herrera has been impressed by what he's seen from the Belgian so far, citing Lukaku's hunger as being a vital component of his game.

The Spaniard says it's important that all the players chip in on the scoresheet but pointed to the performances and goals last season of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to emphasise the importance of having a free-scoring front man. And in Lukaku, Herrera believes the Reds have signed a player who has qualities aplenty.

“Last season we won three titles because we had one of the top scorers like Zlatan. If you want to be a champion and win titles you need a guy like him and Romelu is doing fantastic for us," Herrera told reporters.

"He is so hungry, he wants to win things, he wants to score goals and he wants to be important.

“It doesn't matter that he hasn't played Champions League before, he has scored goals and played in the best league in the world so he will score goals for us.

"Paul Pogba is there to score goals," added the midfielder. "Marcus [Rashford] will score, Anthony [Martial] is scoring, Juan [Mata] will score because it is in his DNA so we cannot give all the responsibility to Romelu. It is very important to have him though."

United will continue a busy month of matches on Tuesday when FC Basel visit Old Trafford in our first Champions League group game of the season, and Herrera insists it feels great to be back in the most prestigious cup competition in club football.

"It is amazing to be back in it. Every game is amazing for Manchester United for me but the Champions League is the most beautiful competition apart from the Premier League," he declared.

“We should be in the Champions League. Even without the Champions League we are the club with more fans than anybody in the world and with the biggest amount of sponsors in the world. That is why the game against Ajax [to get back into the competition] was the game of our lives. It was certainly the game of my career.

"We want to fight for every title. Last season we won three which wasn’t bad but we did not fight for the Premier League and we were not in the Champions League so we have to be humble and take it step by step."
