Lukaku Outscores Everton

Manchester United host Everton on Super Sunday this weekend - but how has Romelu Lukaku's goalscoring form compared with his former employers?

Everton collected £75m plus add-ons for the Belgian in July but failed to replace him with a similar out-and-out striker, opting to re-sign Wayne Rooney and bring in Barcelona graduate Sandro Ramirez.

The majority of Everton's summer spending bolstered defence and midfield, recruiting 'keeper Jordan Pickford (£30m), centre-back Michael Keane (£30m) and midfielders Gylfi Sigurdsson (£45m) and Davy Klassen (£23.6m).

However, four games into the Premier League season and Everton have the fourth worst goal difference having only scored two goals and conceded six - including three during their toothless display against Tottenham last week.


Having moved in the opposite direction, former United captain Rooney has scored both of Everton's goals, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has only hit two shots on target and Ramirez has failed to register one shot on goal.

In contrast, Lukaku has hit the ground running in Manchester red, scoring twice as many goals as his former club - netting four in as many games.

Lukaku's striking superiority over the entire Everton team extends to scoring more goals from fast breaks, taking more shots on target and having a superior shot conversion rate.

On average, the 24-year-old has scored one goal from every four attempted shots, giving him a 28.57 conversion rate - compared to Everton's underwhelming eight per cent return.

Combined, United trio Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba have taken 21 shots on target so far this season - compared with just six taken by Everton's top three shooters: Rooney, Calvert-Lewin and Klassen.
