Rashford On His Connection With Lukaku

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has revealed that he feels a unique connection with Romelu Lukaku when the pair are on the pitch together.

The Reds have begun the Premier League season in electric form, and one of the key features of the side’s impressive start has been the link-up play between the forwards, with Rashford and Lukaku often at the heart of it.

The England star admitted that prior to Lukaku’s arrival at United this summer, they had never crossed paths, which makes their on-field relationship even more remarkable.

“It’s just clicked, we’ve got that understanding,” Rashford told MUTV. “We’d never met before his arrival, and we didn’t know what each other were like, but when we got on the pitch together we just knew where each other was.

“Hopefully we can keep growing the relationship more and more. Obviously it’s only in the early stages, and the better we get at playing together, the better the results will be for the team.”

Some fans have even drawn comparisons between Rashford and Lukaku and United’s prolific strike pairing from the Treble era, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole. However, the 19-year-old striker was keen not to get ahead of himself, despite being flattered by the comparison.

“It would be great if we could be like them,” Rashford said. “But the most important thing is for us to work for the team together.”

Jose Mourinho’s Reds currently hold a 100 per cent record in the Premier League this term, with three wins from three, but Rashford is under no illusions of how tough a challenge maintaining that record will be when they travel to the bet365 Stadium to face Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

“Every game has been tough in its own right,” Rashford added. “A lot of the goals we’ve scored have been late in the game, and they’ve come from sticking to what we believe in. We’ve got to go to Stoke with the right attitude and mentality to make sure we get the three points.”
