Reaction As United Beat Burton

ManUtd.com has gathered a selection of post-match quotes from the players and manager Jose Mourinho following Manchester United's victory over Burton Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Two goals from Marcus Rashford, a deflected Jesse Lingard strike and Anthony Martial's composed finish saw the Reds begin the defence of the trophy with a convincing win to book a fourth-round tie against Swansea City next month.

MUTV spoke to Jose Mourinho and two Reds stars after the cup success and we have summarised their key points below.

Jose Mourinho: "We did our job. Not a phenomenal performance but a solid performance. Since the beginning, we played in a serious way. The players, many of them, needed 90 minutes to play because many of them were not playing a lot during the season. I think we did our job professionally."

Jesse Lingard: "The early goal put them on the back foot. I think there was a lot of space throughout the game, especially at the start when they had the full-backs pressing [Matteo] Darmian and [Daley] Blind so the likes of me and Anthony [Martial] had space out wide. But, of course, I'm claiming it – I don't mind how they go in, as long as I get a goal."

Scott McTominay: "The boys played really well and it was a comfortable night. We controlled most of the game and they had a few chances but we put the game to bed in the second half and it was a pleasing night. It was good for myself to get some minutes as well."

MUTV's Paddy Crerand: "It could have been many more for United in actual fact but the Burton fans didn’t leave at full-time once they scored the goal and stayed to enjoy themselves – that's what cup ties are all about. It was important for Luke Shaw to come back, I’m a big fan. I don't think there’s a better left-back in the country than him. Hopefully he can get back to something like he was."

View from the opposing dugout - Nigel Clough: "All we wanted to do was have a go – and I thought we did that tonight, especially in the first half. We came in 3-0 down at half-time, but we'd had chances ourselves as well. Their quality just shines through. United are always going to carve you open at will and unfortunately they scored from their first two shots."
