Mourinho Reacts To Win Over CSKA Moscow
Jose Mourinho was pleased with the attitude his Manchester United players showed in Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow, which clinched top spot in Group A and progression to the last 16.
Read on for the key quotes from the manager's post-match press conference and interviews with MUTV and BT Sport
'WE QUALIFIED THE WAY WE WANTED TO'
"We confirmed but we confirmed the way we wanted to, which was playing well and having a result. [At] half-time we were losing but playing well. I was not unhappy with the players at all. In the second half, we had that strong reaction, we really didn’t want to lose the match and I think the boys played professionally. I was pleased with the attitude of the players. They had pride to play, they didn’t want to lose and they wanted to keep that good record at home. In the second half the performance was strong. Until we scored the two goals it was like non-stop to create and non-stop to try. And 15 points in the season of returning to the Champions League, I think is good."
40 GAMES UNBEATEN AT OLD TRAFFORD
"I'm not proud because we've had some bad results at home. We've drawn matches that are not good results. I'm not playing for records, I don't want to stay in the history books of this club because of records. I want to stay because of things like winning the Europa League for the first time, I want to do more important things than that. But, it's nice."
GOOD GOALSCORERS
"If I were to choose goalscorers, I would always choose the strikers because their confidence always depends on goals. But [Romelu] Lukaku, his work for the team is crazy, what he does for the team every match, it doesn’t matter if he scores. If he can score his goal and feel the happiness of strikers who always want to score goals, then great. But I am always happy with Romelu. For Marcus [Rashford], it was important too."
FRINGE PLAYERS TAKE THEIR CHANCE
"It was good too for [Scott] McTominay and Axel [Tuanzebe] in the Champions League to have minutes. Other guys [who have] not played so much, Luke Shaw, especially offensively, very, very, good and great contribution for the team. [Sergio] Romero is a great goalkeeper, he’s only on the bench [normally] because we have David [De Gea]. I’m really happy."
TEAMS TO AVOID IN THE LAST 16?
"I am not the luckiest guy with draws so it's better I shut up and forget it because we only play in February and until then I have to concentrate on the English competitions. But I think it doesn't matter which team we get in the draw - I don't think that team will be jumping with happiness to play against us."
ANY ISSUES AHEAD OF THE DERBY?
"No. Our opponents always have issues and they have big issues and in the end everybody is ready to play. They have phenomenal organisation, we are a bit more humble. When we have a problem, we have a problem. The players that are injured are injured. I tell you the truth. Tomorrow is a day off and, on a day off, I don’t think about football. Only Thursday will I start thinking about the derby."
