Reaction: Reds Too Strong For Gunners
We've gathered a selection of post-match quotes from the players and elsewhere following Manchester United's impressive victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
After a 4-2 triumph at Watford on Tuesday night, the Reds rounded off a perfect week with a fine win against the Gunners, ensuring that some pressure is kept on leaders Manchester City going into the crucial derby at Old Trafford next weekend.
A number of players all spoke to MUTV and BT Sport after the game and we have summarised their key points below.
Jesse Lingard: “The early goal settled everyone’s nerves and it’s great to have David [De Gea] behind us in goal. We can rely on him and trust him. Our defence was really stable today and we defended really well.”
Chris Smalling: “You come out before a game saying you need to get off to a good start, but that’s the best start I think we’ve ever had. That really set us up in a place which can be really intimidating, because Arsenal are known for their fast starts.”
David De Gea: “In the first half, we scored two great goals but, at the end of the first half, we lost control of the game. The sending off [of Paul Pogba] was difficult but, at the end, we found the will, and we are really happy with the three points.”
MUTV’s Paddy Crerand: “What a great performance from United. Going down to 10 men, they got even better. That was such a courageous, brave battle at the end for United. Arsenal tried everything. If you’re going to win championships, it is games like these that win championships for you.”
View from the opposing dug-out – Arsene Wenger: “David De Gea was Man of the Match by a clear mile. We played well, but there is nothing more frustrating when you have that quality of performance and nothing to show for it at the end. The attitude was impeccable until the end. But you cannot make the mistakes we made at the beginning.”
View from Twitter - @LewisGlennon: “Solid win, strong on the counter-attack, De Gea was class yet again, Lingard in good form, Pogba is going to be a big loss for next week’s game. #MUFC”
