Six Views On United's Derby Defeat

ManUtd.com has gathered a selection of post-match opinions from players, the two managers and others after Manchester United's 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The Reds lost to rivals City as David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi both scored in the aftermath of set pieces, either side of Marcus Rashford's equaliser in first-half injury time.

Here are some quotes from the protagonists and the pundits as the Reds reflect on a disappointing derby day...

Victor Lindelof: “We are disappointed of course; we always want to win the games, especially this one so we are disappointed with the result. The atmosphere was amazing [in my first derby]; the fans were amazing as always and especially today. We wanted to win for them today but unfortunately we didn’t do that. On to the next one - we have a new game coming up that we need to focus on and get the three points from."

Jose Mourinho: "You can bring any football theory, you can bring the stats, the ball possession, but like last season it is a huge penalty in the crucial moment of the game. But I also have to say I feel sorry for [referee] Michael Oliver because he had a good game. I know we can win next Wednesday [against Bournemouth] and we are going to work and fight for it. Every match is a match where we are going to give everything with our qualities, with our problems - that is what we do all the time."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: "Football is incredible. We spoke about how to play [against] United, but never set pieces offensively and then we score two. Football is unpredictable."

MUTV's Lou Macari: "We were beaten by the better team today, there's no doubt about that. But United are still good enough to win something this season."

MUTV's Bojan Djordjic: "City made better angles and they moved for each other. I'm just gutted we didn't test their back four enough, especially the centre-back pairing when we started so well in the second half. We missed Pogba, he brings something extra to our midfield."
