United Delays Compound Misery

Manchester United's Carabao Cup nightmare lasted until 5am on Thursday when they finally got home from a bad day in Bristol.

United's defence of the trophy came to a surprising end when they were beaten 2-1 by Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City at Ashton Gate in an enthralling quarter-final tie.

But that was only half of the story for Jose Mourinho's squad, who saw their journey south diverted to Cardiff, adding time and requiring them to be bussed over the Severn Bridge to Bristol.

Fog in the area had not cleared sufficiently in time for their return flight to Manchester, meaning the squad had to head north on the team bus, eventually arriving a couple of hours before dawn broke on Thursday.

United do not have a great deal of time to prepare for their next game either, with all bar one of the Premier League's pre-Christmas fixtures being played on Saturday.

Mourinho's men are on their travels again, heading to the East Midlands to take on Leicester City in an evening game you can see live on Sky Sports Premier League.

They head into the trip to the King Power second in the table, albeit 11 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.
