Reds Learn FA Cup Quarter-final Opponents
Manchester United will face Brighton & Hove Albion at home in the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup.
The Reds will take on the Seagulls in a repeat of the 1983 FA Cup final, which we won 4-0 in a replay following an initial 2-2 draw at Wembley. Brighton, who are currently 14th in the Premier League, have also reached the last eight of the competition for the first time since 1986.
The tie at Old Trafford is the reward for Jose Mourinho’s men, who beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 in Saturday’s fifth-round tie at the John Smith’s Stadium thanks to a brace by Romelu Lukaku.
United have already beaten Chris Hughton’s side in the Premier League at the Theatre of Dreams back in November, when Lewis Dunk’s own goal separated the sides in a 1-0 victory for the Reds.
The Reds were ball no.5 in the draw, which was conducted by former United striker Michael Owen and ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given from the BT Sport studios in Stratford, east London.
The tie will be played between 16 and 19 March, which means the Reds’ Premier League game against West Ham United at the London Stadium, scheduled for Sunday 18 March, will be rearranged for a new date.
There will be no replays in the quarter-finals, following a change to the rules last season.
