Coach's View For Carrick
Michael Carrick is starting his new life as a coach by being listed on the official teamsheet and sitting on the bench with the Manchester United staff for the visit of Swansea City.
The club captain is set to take up a position as part of Jose Mourinho's backroom team in 2018/19 after confirming his plans to retire from the game.
The boss has revealed the thinking behind the move, as Carrick will be able to enjoy a taste of what it will be like operating in a different role.
"It's only for next season really but, this season, he is already coming and sharing a little bit of our space," said Jose. "We are opening the door for him to not have a difficult transition next season. So, this season, he's doing little things.
"He is learning, not the football of course, but the other side of the life and I think it's a good experience for him until the end of the season. Maybe, in three or four matches, it's another experience for him to share the bench from a different perspective."
