Bound for the USA! United's tour squad heads to LA

Manchester United's Tour 2018, presented by Aon, is officially under way after the squad flew out to the United States on Sunday evening.

The travelling party boarded the long flight to Los Angeles where training will be stepped up ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League season, which starts in less than a month’s time when United host Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday 10 August.

Among the players pictured prior to take-off were Matteo Darmian, Ander Herrera, Joel Pereira and Andreas Pereira, as well as exciting youngsters Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong, who will be hoping to make an impact during the five-match trip to the US.

Chris Smalling also tweeted a picture of himself and fellow defender Luke Shaw after boarding the plane...

The Reds' fixtures on American soil will include three International Champions Cup matches against Real Madrid, AC Milan and arch-rivals Liverpool.

One notable absentee from the travelling party was, understandably, Paul Pogba who spent Sunday evening in Moscow, Russia after helping France win the World Cup. The United midfielder scored his national team's third goal as they beat Croatia 4-2 in the final at the Luzhniki Stadium - the venue where the Reds won the Champions League in 2008.

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE

ManUtd.com's Gemma Thompson has arrived in Los Angeles...

We're Stateside! Jose Mourinho, his players and the other staff in our tour party have touched down on the West Coast of the United States. Everyone seemed to enjoy the very smooth 10-hour flight as our two-and-a-half week trip begins.

Ahead of us, there will be some vital work on the training pitch for the squad as well as five friendly matches, all of which you can watch on MUTV.

Getting settled into the team hotel is next on the agenda though - it’s late on Sunday night, LA time, as I write this. So as my colleagues wake up in the UK, it's goodnight from me in the USA.
