Rashford: It's no secret - work hard, get results!

Marcus Rashford has a steely mindset that was built coming through Manchester United's Academy and insists the minimum fans can expect is every player leaving everything on the pitch in every game.

Our no.10 was praised by Jose Mourinho for his energy during last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Southampton, in which he set up both goals for Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera before picking up a slight injury.

Naturally, as a local lad and Academy graduate, Marcus will have felt the disappointment of recent results as keenly as anyone in the squad.

In an exclusive interview with United Review, the official matchday programme, he says he’s determined to keep contributing and believes hard work from the whole team will be the catalyst to moving on from this “difficult moment”.

“In the position we’re in now, when it’s difficult and we’re not playing our best football, that has to be the thing that you do first and foremost,” the forward said.

“That’s what was in my mind: that whatever happens, go out there and give 110 per cent so when you come off the pitch you have no regrets. There’s no secret, it’s just a direct correlation: if you work hard, you get results. That’s always the thing I naturally go back to, especially when things aren’t going well.

“It’s just about hard work and us keeping on grinding out games when we’re not playing at our best, and at the same time we’re always trying to improve because we want to play our best football and that’s the level we have to get to.”

United supporters both home and away have been magnificent all season – which was evident once again on Wednesday night at Old Trafford as the Reds battled back to earn a 2-2 draw against in-form Arsenal.

It was also a game in which several United players made themselves available to play, despite not necessarily being 100 per cent fit, in order to help the team.

“The fans want to see us win as much as we want to win for them,” Marcus added. “We just need to put the performances together as we have the quality to beat teams, which is easy to say but can be difficult sometimes.

“Right now, we’re in one of those periods where it’s proving difficult, but it doesn’t mean we stop trying to improve or win the games. It just means we have to try harder. And we will keep trying harder.”
