Marcus's masterclass takes the plaudits

Marcus Rashford was voted Manchester United's Man of the Match in the 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

The red-hot striker scored for the fourth successive Premier League match to continue his outstanding run of form, producing the outstanding moment of the afternoon with a sensational goal, curling the ball past David Button in the Albion goal.

It was little surprise Rashford won our poll with 63 per cent of the vote, ahead of Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial, the other nominees.

Opta's stats showed the England forward had six shots in total, only bettered by Paul Pogba's seven, with two on target. He also supplied the most dangerous of crosses that caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer felt Jesse Lingard should have converted in the second half.

As has often been the case of late, he sprinted more than anybody on the pitch (15) and covered 9.82 kilometres before going off, after picking up a knock and a yellow card.

The only Red to clock a faster speed than him was his pal Lingard, who was marginally quicker (33.19 km/h to 33.15 km/h).

“You can argue for many strikers [being the best in the division at the moment],” said Solskjaer in his post-match press conference.

“I'm glad he's in my team! Harry Kane is injured so maybe he gives him a better chance to be the best one at the moment. I said to the television as well - his work-rate, nobody beats him. Nobody beats him on attitude. At the moment, he's very confident in front of goal. He tries to shoot and doesn't think twice about it.

”He made a chance for Jesse and I can't believe how Jesse didn't score at the back post. At the moment, he's playing the best football of his career.“
