Five Reds nominated for January awards

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and four of his players have been nominated for numerous Premier League and Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) awards.

The Norwegian assumed the reins at the club on 19 December and inspired an immediate upturn in form, helping the team comfortably win our final three games of 2018. That momentum has been maintained throughout January, with five wins from six games.

Now, Solskjaer - along with David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford - have been recognised for their efforts by the Premier League and the PFA.

Read on to find out who has been nominated for which award.

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER - BARCLAYS MANAGER OF THE MONTH

Ole is up for the division's Manager of the Month award, along with Burnley boss Sean Dyche – whose team became the first side to deny Solskjaer’s United victory on Tuesday night – and Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhüttl. Solskjaer guided the Reds to three league wins from four matches during January, including an impressive triumph away to Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Should he claim the award, the 45-year-old will become the first United manager to do so since Sir Alex Ferguson in October 2012.

VICTOR LINDELOF - EA SPORTS PLAYER OF THE MONTH

The Swedish international scored his first United goal in our final match of January - a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Burnley. He’s been a tower of strength for Solskjaer at the heart of the defence, and has deservedly been nominated for the EA Sports Player of the Month award for the first time, alongside former United Academy graduates Tom Heaton (Burnley) and Josh King (Bournemouth), Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) and our very own Marcus Rashford.

MARCUS RASHFORD - EA SPORTS PLAYER OF THE MONTH, CARLING GOAL OF THE MONTH AND PFA PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

What a month it has been for the Wythenshawe-born forward. His stunning solo goal against Brighton meant he had netted in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time, and his precise finish at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur was equally important. Our no.10 also converted United’s match-clinching second goal in the first match of 2019, away to Newcastle.

Like Victor, he has been nominated for the EA Sports Player of the Month award. Along with David De Gea and Paul Pogba, he is also nominated for the PFA’s equivalent award - the Bristol Street Motors Premier League Player of the Month - where he is up against Troy Deeney (Watford), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Leroy Sane (Manchester City), along with his two United colleagues.

Marcus has also been recognised for two of the goals mentioned above, against Brighton and Tottenham. He goes up for Carling Goal of the Month against Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Andre Schürrle (Fulham), Willian (Chelsea), Diogo Jota (Wolves), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) and Callum Wilson (Bournemouth).
