What Ole is asking from his side at the Nou Camp
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the main area where his Manchester United players need to improve in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.
All the preparations have been completed in advance of a huge clash at the Nou Camp, with the runaway leaders of La Liga 1-0 up from the reverse game at Old Trafford last week.
The Calalan giants are unbeaten in 30 home matches in the competition, the overall record. They have progressed 36 of the 38 times they won the away first leg in European tournaments and their last loss at the Nou Camp in the knockout stages came against Bayern Munich in the 2012/13 semi-finals.
Although Barcelona clearly showed their undisputed quality in Manchester, Ole believes there is more to come from his team as he challenged his players to rise to the occasion at one of the greatest sporting arenas on the planet.
“We need more quality in the last third,” he told MUTV in an interview that is featured exclusively on our Official App. “With crosses and finishing.
”Maybe we need more belief in what we did - we had too much respect in the first 15 minutes and never really won the ball off them.
“Even though we had a couple of chances - Rashy [Marcus Rashford] had his free-kick that went wide and Paul [Pogba] just played Rashy almost straight through on goal, so we were close to one or two-nil before they scored.”
Barcelona have lost at home this season - a 4-3 defeat to Real Betis in November - so they are not unbeatable.
Even if it is another tall order for United, the progress past Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round does give rise to optimism that anything is possible on the night.
“We are going to build the confidence, belief and a game-plan around going through,” added the manager.
“We know we need to win this game.”
