Why Lindelof is angry

Victor Lindelof was furious that Manchester United allowed Barcelona an ‘easy’ winner at Old Trafford to take back to the Catalan capital.

The Reds defender believes United should not be travelling to the Nou Camp next week seeking to overturn a 1-0 deficit in a bid to get to the Champions League semi-finals.

United lost to a Luke Shaw own goal after a Luis Suarez header was deflected in off the left back in the 12th minute of the home tie.

“Right now, I am just angry we didn’t get a better result,” said Lindelof afterwards. “We played against a really good team. At times, we played well but, when you play against teams like this, you can’t concede goals like that. It is too easy.

“It happened, we just have to learn from it and move on. We still have a game to go, so we have to look back at this game and see what we could have done better and try to improve.

“We have belief in our team that we can do great things and we have shown that before so we just have to improve a little bit, go to Barcelona and do our best.

“Of course, the tie is still alive. There is one game to go and we just have to work hard and try to improve those things we didn’t do so well today and go from there.”

Lindelof’s team-mate Romelu Lukaku believes United need to regain our swagger in the Nou Camp next Tuesday night in the second leg.

“We have to believe and have the desire and show more quality than today, be better on the ball and then you never know what can happen in football,” said the Belgium striker.

“I don’t think we played with the same arrogance and confidence on the ball as we have. In the second half, we tried and, for the first 20 minutes of the second half, we were there. It’s something we have to do for the whole 90 minutes over there and not concede a goal and score early.

“On the day, you can score from one chance and that’s what Barcelona did,“ Lukaku added. ”There was a lack of concentration and they scored a goal.

“Over there, we have to do a better job and stay focused a bit more. We know they have players who make late runs. For us, we have to go with the desire, be focused and, when the chance comes, we have to score.”
