Mata on why he's committed to United

Juan Mata has spoken about why he decided to sign a new contract at Manchester United this summer.

The deal will keep the midfielder at Old Trafford until June 2021, with the option to extend for a further year.

“The first thing is the feeling of belonging to this club. I think it is something special and unique,” Mata told MUTV in an exclusive interview from Perth, Australia, where the Reds are preparing for our first match of Tour 2019 against local side Perth Glory.

“We know that in football there are three or four big clubs in the world, or in Europe, and United is one of them.”

The Spaniard signed for United from Chelsea in January 2014 and has since made 218 competitive appearances in a red shirt, scoring 45 goals.

Having won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with his national side, Mata is one of the most decorated players in the game and wants to add further silverware to the UEFA Europa League, Emirates FA Cup and EFL Cup titles he’s already claimed at Old Trafford.

“I have been here a bit more than five years and I have realised how amazing the supporters are and especially in the tough moments,” added the 31-year-old.

“I wanted to stay, I wanted to commit to the club, to keep enjoying wearing the shirt and keep trying my best.“
