Team news: Shaw fit for Inter clash
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on his team news for Saturday's International Champions Cup clash against Inter Milan.
The Reds are in Singapore for the latest leg of Tour 2019 and will face the Serie A side in the opening fixture of our ICC campaign.
Romelu Lukaku will again be missing after also being absent for the opening two matches, against Perth Glory and Leeds United.
“He's not fit so he won't be available,” Ole confirmed at a press conference previewing the weekend action.
However, David De Gea and Luke Shaw should both be options for the starting XI.
De Gea has been ill and has sat out both of the two victories on tour so far, while Shaw was withdrawn with an injury during the opener against Perth Glory.
“I think both will be available,” the manager confirmed. “Luke did a decent training session yesterday before we left [Perth] and David is probably well enough to train today. So we'll try to get 60 minutes or longer out of him. It shouldn't be too difficult, he's a keeper!
”We’ll give some players 45 minutes, some will get 60, maybe up to 70. But, it’s another stepping stone. We’re not planning to swap all 11 at half-time this time around.“
The squad has been boosted by the arrival of defender Matteo Darmian and midfielder Fred after their delayed link-up with the group.
“Well, obviously, today, we're going to have to see where they're at with them training back home and Fred's been back over in Brazil and had got married,” added the boss. “So he's probably got loads of energy and I'm sure he's keen to join in.”
Young goalkeeper Dean Henderson has not travelled out to Singapore.
In summarising the tour to date, Ole added: “Luke has missed a couple of days, Anthony [Martial] one day, but Romelu is the one who has missed the most.
”But it's been good, very encouraging and we're working on a few things. I think we've started well.“
