The week ahead for Manchester United

Manchester United return to Premier League action this weekend, when we take on Leicester City at Old Trafford.

There’s plenty more going on at the club over the next week, with a few of our stars still on international duty, our youth sides in action and several significant anniversaries on the horizon.

Here’s our quick round-up of what to keep an eye out for over the next seven days…

MONDAY

The build-up to this weekend’s Premier League return begins with The Paddy Crerand Show, which is being shown on MUTV at 18:30 BST. This week’s guests include David May and Lou Macari, who will take a first look at what we can expect from Brendan Rodgers’s Leicester.

Elsewhere, it’s a busy day of international fixtures, with Scott McTominay (Scotland), Daniel James, Dylan Levitt (both Wales), Mason Greenwood (England Under-21), Angel Gomes and Brandon Williams (England Under-20) all potentially set to play.

This day also marks exactly a year from our Women’s first league fixture, when the Reds beat Aston Villa 12-0 thanks to goals from Jess Sigsworth (5), Lauren James (2), Kirsty Hanson (2), Katie Zelem, Mollie Green and Ella Toone.

TUESDAY

The international fixtures continue when England face Kosovo at 19:45 BST at St Mary's. Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford played key roles in Saturday’s win against Bulgaria and are expected to again feature for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Nemanja Matic is another who is likely to be in action, for Serbia, when they play Luxembourg, while Tahith Chong could start for Netherlands Under-21s against Cyprus Under-21s.

WEDNESDAY

Marcos Rojo will wrap up the Reds’ involvement in the internationals when Argentina meet Mexico in Texas, in the United States, at 03:00 BST.

THURSDAY

All of United’s fit first-team players are expected to be back in training as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hones his tactical approach for Saturday’s game against Leicester. We last hosted the Foxes in the opening game of the 2018/19 season, when the Reds emerged as 2-1 victors, thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw.

FRIDAY

Ole will address the media in his weekly press conference and should provide an update on the fitness of a number of United players. Pogba, Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial were all forced to miss their national side’s games over the break, and Ole will, no doubt, be quizzed on the chances of them featuring against Leicester. The press conference will be broadcast that morning by MUTV, so make sure to tune in for the latest updates from the boss.

Later that evening, our Under-23s are in action against Fulham at 19:00 BST. Neil Wood’s youngsters will be hoping to build on our impressive start, which has seen the Reds pick up 10 points from the first four league games. The match, at Leigh Sports Village, has free entry for all and will be shown exclusively live on MUTV.

SATURDAY

Our Under-18s kick off a busy day when we travel to Derby County, for a 12:00 BST start. United have won two and lost two of previous league games this year in this age group and are currently fifth in the table. Again, the encounter will be broadcast live by MUTV.

Ole’s Reds make a much-anticipated return to Premier League action when we welcome Leicester to Old Trafford. United will be hoping to extend our impressive recent record against the Foxes that has seen us win six of the last seven outings against the Midlands club. It will also be a significant day for Maguire, who left Leicester to join United in the summer.

Meanwhile, on this day 56 years ago, George Best made his United debut in a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion. It was the first of 470 appearances the Northern Irishman racked up for the Reds.

SUNDAY

Make sure to check out ManUtd.com and our Official App for all the latest reaction to the previous day’s match with Leicester.

Casey Stoney’s Women’s side are not in action this week, but with our second WSL game of the campaign set to take place against Arsenal the following day, the Reds will no doubt be adding the final touches to our tactical approach for the clash.
