Early team news for Reds' trip to Sheffield

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is welcoming his players back from international duty, ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture against Sheffield United.

The boss had hoped several of his injured players, who were unavailable earlier this month, could be in a position to come back into the fold after this latest break but we will wait to see which of them are available.

Axel Tuanzebe has hinted he is making progress after being sidelined with a hip injury since withdrawing in the warm-up prior to our 1-1 draw with Liverpool on 20 October.

Axel played at Bramall Lane last season, while on loan at Aston Villa, and could provide a boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's options at centre-back, alongside Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.

Scott McTominay is a doubt for the trip to South Yorkshire, after he was replaced with an ankle injury during our last outing - a 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. The problem forced the 22-year-old to miss Scotland’s double header against Cyprus and Kazakhstan over the recent international break and our no.39 may be struggling to be fit for the weekend.

Elsewhere, Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic have been absent. Shaw has been sidelined since August, while Matic has not played in the Premier League since our trip to West Ham on 22 September. The boss is set to provide an update during Friday’s pre-match press conference, which you can watch on MUTV.

Meanwhile, after stepping up his fitness programme during the break, Diogo Dalot is hopeful of being available soon. Paul Pogba is also continuing his recovery from injury but Ole has suggested the midfield man may not return before December.

For Sheffield United, in-form Dean Henderson is ineligible to feature against his parent club, meaning Chris Wilder will have to choose between Simon Moore or Michael Verrips to fill the void created by the on-loan Red.

One injury concern for the Blades is John Egan. The Republic of Ireland international was brought off at half-time in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Denmark, and it will be touch-and-go to see if the defender will be fit in time for this weekend's fixture.
