McTominay awarded goal during Brighton victory
Scott McTominay has been retrospectively awarded Manchester United’s second goal in Sunday’s 3-1 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
McTominay's shot was helped into the net by Brighton's Davy Propper, who was originally given an own goal by the Premier League.
United successfully appealed the award of the goal, which has been switched to McTominay after a decision by the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel. The three-person panel reached their verdict after reviewing the match footage.
The decision means our no.39 has now scored three Premier League goals in his 12 appearances in 2019/20 so far.
McTominay’s first strike of the season, a 20-yard missile from outside the area against Arsenal, won our September Goal of the Month award, while his second, swept home from a corner during the 3-1 win at Carrow Road over Norwich City, was our 2,000th in Premier League history.
The Scotland international, who picked up an ankle problem during injury time in Sunday’s match, and has pulled out of Steve Clarke’s squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers as a result, now has five goals in 63 games for the Reds after strikes against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town last season.
