TEAM NEWS FOR UNITED'S AUSTRIAN TEST
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Anthony Martial is injured ahead of the Europa League last-16 tie at LASK.
The boss has been speaking to the media in Linz, following the flight to Austria, with Thursday's game (17:55 GMT kick-off) set to be played behind closed doors due to coronavirus fears.
The Frenchman, scorer of our first goal in the Manchester derby victory on Sunday, was hurt when colliding with a post after trying to close down Blues keeper Ederson in the second half.
“Anthony hurt himself when he slid into the post,” said Ole. “So he's not ready for this game. Hopefully, he can be ready for Sunday [at Tottenham] but I'm not sure. He's struggling a little bit.
”I think it’s a strong squad,“ the manager added on MUTV. ”We’re coming here with a team that’s going to challenge. We know that we have three, maybe four cup finals, before the international break. We have one or two out but that is how football is.
“We’re looking forward to the game. Some players are chomping at the bit to get a chance because the team is in good form.“
At the open training session on Wednesday, Martial, Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot were not working with the main group.
Lee Grant, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford appeared to remain sidelined.
“Paul is getting closer, yes,” explained the boss. “But, today, he wasn't with the team and has not trained with the team yet. Hopefully, by next week, he will be ready.”
LASK, who are facing an English club for the first time, overcame AZ Alkmaar, who were in our group, during the previous round. In-form striker Marko Raguz scored all the goals in a 3-1 aggregate triumph over the Dutch side.
Coach Valerien Ismael, the former Crystal Palace defender, is unable to count on suspended defenders Philip Wiesinger and Petar Filipovic. Full-back Marvin Potzmann and winger Thomas Goiginger are out, while another wide-man, Husein Balic, is doubtful.
