FIXTURES: WHEN DO WE PLAY OUR BIG RIVALS?

Scanning the new fixture list to see when we play our big rivals is something many of us Manchester United fans do when the new batch of games is released at the start of every campaign, and 2020/21 is no different.

The Reds' faithful will no doubt all have been looking to see when our first test against Liverpool will be and when we'll have the first Manchester derby of the season to look forward to, as well as searching to see when we'll be reunited with Leeds United for the first time in the Premier League since 2004.

We won't have to wait too long for our first encounter with a main rival, which is also the start of a run of big-rival clashes through October.

Of course, all dates are still to be confirmed and you'd expect many of United's more high profile matches to be selected for TV, but what we know so far is that we'll host Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on 3 October. That will be swiftly followed up by further home games against Chelsea, on 24 October, and Arsenal a week later, on Halloween.

The first meeting with Manchester City will take place at Old Trafford on 12 December, while our first top-flight clash with Leeds since February 2004 will be at home on 19 December.

We'll travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on 16 January and on the final weekend of the month we'll make the trip to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal.

A visit to Stamford Bridge, to play Chelsea, will be on 27 February, also the same weekend that the Carabao Cup final is due to take place at Wembley. A week later, on 6 March, there will be another Manchester derby, this time at the Etihad Stadium, while our second-ever visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be a week after Easter on 10 April.

We'll be up against Leeds on 24 April at Elland Road before our final big-rival clash, at home to Liverpool, takes place over the May Day bank holiday weekend at the start of May.

It's highly likely a large number of the United games mentioned above will be selected for TV and the Premier League has agreed with its UK broadcast partners to increase the number of matches shown live from 200 to 220 for the 2020/21 season only. Of the additional live matches, 12 will be shown on Sky Sports, six on BT Sport and two on Amazon Prime Video.

Also, given that the forthcoming season is condensed there will be two additional midweek programmes - one will be played across the weeks commencing 11 and 18 January, and the second will take place in the week commencing Monday 10 May, and all of these games will be broadcast live.
