About Frank Stella:

Frank Stella, an American minimalist artist, sculptor and printer, believed that art was stripping down of the image and object to its spare, uncluttered fundamental form. An avid racing fan, his design of the BMW Art Car utilised grid lines with the even precision of graph paper as a reflection of the exacting technology involved in designing the total machine. Stella's minimalist bearing dictated that pattern should be regarded only as agreeable decoration that always takes into account the form - in this case, the BMW 3.0 CSL itself.
