Edwin: Let's Kick On

Edwin van der Sar hopes winning the Club World Cup will set United on their way to more glory.

The Dutchman played a major part in the victory, making a string of fine saves when the Reds were down to ten men after Nemanja Vidic's dismissal. It's his second world title - he also won one with Ajax - and he's determined to add to his medal collection again next May.

"It's great to win this tournament again. Hopefully we can go on from here and do well for the rest of the season," he told ManUtd.com.

"It’s important that we make sure we prepare ourselves properly for Stoke on Friday and get back into the normal timezone, although I don’t think that will be hard because I feel like I haven’t even arrived into this one [in Japan]! But it’s great to be going into the game on the back of winning a trophy."

Van der Sar felt United fully deserved the victory over LDU Quito after dominating for long periods.

"I didn’t have much to do in the first half so you’re hoping to go on and get a couple of goals," he said. "They put a bit of pressure on us after we scored, but I had a good eye on the shots and they were nice saves."
