Giggs Set For New Deal

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Ryan Giggs will be offered a new contract after his sparkling form this season.

The veteran winger-turned-midfielder has been used tactically in recent seasons, playing irregularly but turning in top-notch displays that belie his 35 years of age.

His current contract expires at the end of the current campaign, but Sir Alex insists his longest-serving player need not worry.

"Ryan will be offered a new contract, of course," said Sir Alex. "He has been fantastic for us this season - he seems to be getting even better with age.

"He seems to be one of those rare people who find that age and injuries don't catch up with them."

Giggs has become the most decorated player in English football history, with a string of team honours, but has been largely overlooked for individual accolades.

Following Giggs' fine form this term, however, Sir Alex feels he is in with a shout of scooping the PFA Player of the Year award at the end of the season.

"He could win the Footballer of the Year award," said the United manager. "And it would be fitting if he did after the career he has had."
