Vidic: Let's Be Patient
United know only victory will do in Porto next Wednesday, but Nemanja Vidic says the Reds will not be too gung-ho in their approach to the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Having taken a late lead through Carlos Tevez in the first leg meeting on Tuesday night, Sir Alex's men were hit by a sucker punch a minute from time when substitute Mariano steered home a second away goal for the visitors.
Vidic acknowledged the Reds were nowhere near their best at Old Trafford, but believes a disciplined and patient approach in Portugal will give them a great chance.
"I wouldn't say our confidence is low, but we were very disappointed with the way the game ended up," he told MUTV.
"We started badly by losing an early goal, but got ourselves back into it. At 2-1 we knew it would be a good result for us, but it didn't work out that way and we know we need to go to Porto and win the game.
"We have the players up front who can score goals, but we won't go there and be stupid by just going on the attack.
"They have some very good players, particularly up front, who will be looking to capitalise on any mistakes we might make, so we need be clever with our play."
The fact that Porto have never lost to an English side on home soil makes United's task all the more harder, but Vidic remains upbeat.
"I knew what a good team they were before this game - they've shown that over the last few years particularly at home," he said. "They're a difficult team to beat in Portugal and we're expecting a hard game. But we'll do our best to get the result we want."
