Fergie Quashes Red Knights Link

Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished claims that he is supporting the Red Knights' bid to take over Manchester United.

The Glazer family moved to deny reports earlier this week that they were prepared to sell their stake in the club to the Red Knights, a group of wealthy United fans.

Chief executive David Gill quickly backed the Glazers and Ferguson himself also reiterated that the club was not for sale.

A report nevertheless surfaced in one Sunday newspaper that Ferguson would be behind a takeover by the Red Knights, while there were suggestions he would be prepared to invest his own money in the club if the bid were to succeed.

However, Ferguson has now made it clear there was no substance in the story as he retains complete faith in the Glazers.

He said: "It's absolute rubbish. There's not an ounce of truth in it."

A Red Devils spokesman backed up Ferguson's words, claiming: "The Glazer family and the manager enjoy 100% trust in each other."
