The Perfect Match?

Javier Hernández has many strings to his bow, not least the knack to be in the right place at the right time. That is how he came to slip in front of goal at Wembley, causing Antonio Valencia's cross to cannon off one of his legs straight on to his head and into the back of the net as if he meant it all along. Outrageous good fortune? Of course.

But Hernández deserved a bit of luck with the way he played in the second half of Sunday's Community Shield.

The 22-year-old Mexican is clearly very sharp. But being able to run fast is one thing (he was recorded as the quickest player at this summer's World Cup). Using that pace requires a bit of nous and Hernández seems to have plenty judging by the way he linked up with Dimitar Berbatov, whose eyes, by the way, must have lit up when he saw how the player known as Chicharito helped his own game.

The two looked a perfect match against Chelsea's tiring defence, combining several times courtesy of the new boy's quick feet and rapier runs next to the Bulgarian's famously languid style.

You never know, Hernández could be the man finally to bring out the best in United's so-far underachieving record signing.
