Daehli Is Academy Star
Mats Daehli has won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award at the end of an impressive maiden season for Manchester United.
The Norwegian midfielder received the nod from the coaching staff after playing a central role in the Reds’ run to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals and the final of the Aegon Future Cup.
Daehli signed professional terms with the club earlier this season and his skilful performances for Paul McGuinness’ Under-18s led to his elevation to the Reserves squad for the first time in March.
The 17-year-old succeeds last year's winner Ryan Tunncliffe and follows the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Danny Welbeck in scooping the award.
"I'm very proud and the season went very well for us, particularly in the Youth Cup," said Daehli at Monday's awards night at Old Trafford. "Everyone here has taken great care of me, I've settled in well and hopefully that will continue."
Daehli also revealed he has a legendary fellow countryman in his corner.
"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a huge inspiration to me and it's great I can call him whenever I want."
