Young: Reds Are Born Winners

Ashley Young believes the winning mentality at Old Trafford can spur Manchester United on to glory this season.

The winger joined the club from Aston Villa in order to win trophies and the Double remains a possibility despite the Reds being taken to a replay by Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Sir Alex Ferguson suggested Young would have time to think about the need to win some medals during his time on the sidelines through injury but the England international feels his chief focus was on regaining full fitness.

"When you are injured, the thing you think about most is getting yourself back fit," he asserted. "I have had a fair few injuries this season. That has been disappointing for me but I have got myself back fit now.

"I have come to the club to win trophies. That is what I want to do. Hopefully we can kick on now until the end of the season and maintain the good form we have shown so far.

"When you move to a club like United you look at the trophy cabinet and what they have won. Everybody is a born winner. The manager gives you that belief to win every game and win trophies. I joined the club to win trophies."

Young has been impressed with the desire to succeed at the club, which stems from the manager, and is determined to end the season on a real high.

"We want to get back to winning ways," he stated. "At a club like Manchester United, winning is a habit. You go into every game wanting to win. There is a disappointment when you don't. There is disappointment when you don't win in training. If you have that winning mentality in training, you take that onto the pitch in weekend games."

If the Reds do manage to overcome Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City lie in wait at Wembley in the last four of the FA Cup.

"There is not a lot the players can do about the semi-finals being at Wembley," admitted Young. "It is one of those things. As long as we get through, that is all that matters."
