Mixed Emotions For Evra

Patrice Evra admits to experiencing mixed emotions after celebrating the Barclays Premier League title win following Sir Alex Ferguson's final home game in charge of Manchester United.

The full-back produced an excellent performance against Swansea and was pleased for Rio Ferdinand after his fellow defender hammered in a late winner to seal a 2-1 victory on the day the Reds picked up the trophy again.

"Today was just amazing and special," Evra told MUTV. "I don't know if I'm celebrating or if I'm sad because the boss is leaving. It's a strange atmosphere and, I don't know, but I'm sad. I win the title but am sad actually.

"It was emotional for everyone - especially for the boss. He represents a lot for myself - I always say I was never scared of the boss but I was scared to disappoint him. He gave me a lot of things and I just said 'thank you' every time for what he has done for me."

Evra thinks it was fitting that another late goal, which has happened so frequently during Sir Alex's glorious reign, capped off his Old Trafford farewell.

"It's just the destiny," he explained. "That's not luck now - it's the winning mentality and the Manchester United culture.

"We always score late goals - it's not luck any more for me, just Manchester United's culture.

"I'm pleased for Rio. What a great goal and, to score in the last home game, I'm really pleased for him. Rio has had an excellent season.

"Now we are so happy we're champions. Of course, when you win one, two, three, four or five. When I won the first one, I wanted to win more. We want to retain the trophy for next year. We'll make sure we have a good holiday but be back ready for next year as we have to win it again."
